"What I've Done"

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ef-N7aGtgck

In this farewell
There's no blood
There's no alibi
Cause I've drawn regret
From the truth
Of a thousand lies

So let mercy come
And wash away

What I've done
I'll face myself
To cross out what I've become
Erase myself
And let go of what I've done

Put to rest
What you thought of me
While I clean this slate
With the hands
Of uncertainty

So let mercy come
And wash away

What I've done
I'll face myself
To cross out what I've become
Erase myself
And let go of what I've done

For what I've done
I start again
And whatever pain may come
Today this ends
I'm forgiving what I've done

I'll face myself
To cross out what I've become
Erase myself
And let go of what I've done

What I've done
Forgiving what I've done

This song has a variety of effects on me. On the one hand the idea of mercy and "crossing out" resonates and inspires me. Unfortunately, the forgiveness and canceling out is missing Someone...

When I watched the music video, the lyrics and music struck me even more with the sins of humanity in view.

The absence of God in this song with the themes I would associate with Him, work to bring out a longing for His redeeming work in mankind. There is only One who can cancel out what we've done and truly inspire the passion this song puts forward.

It's like listening to a love song on the radio and being reminded of the one you love when in all reality the writer didn't think of him or her at all.

The farewell to "ourselves" comes only through the blood of one God/Man.
